Mr. Nivin was admitted to practice before the courts of the State of New York in 2008. He is also admitted to practice before the courts of the State of Connecticut, and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.

Starting his career at the Administration for Children's Services, Mr. Nivin obtained valuable trial experience, while also developing a deep passion for assisting families in need. He has been in private practice since 2010, focusing almost exclusively on family, matrimonial law, and guardianships.

From 2011 to 2017, Mr. Nivin served on the Assigned Counsel/Attorneys for Children Panel in Queens Family Court, where he represented hundreds of indigent adults in custody, family offense, child protective, and child support enforcement cases. He also represented children in custody, family offense, paternity, and child protective proceedings, gaining valuable insight into both family dynamics and the role of the attorney for the child. Mr. Nivin also served on the Appellate Panel from 2014 to 2019, where he represented litigants in appeals from Family Court, and obtained several appellate reversals for his clients.

As an attorney in private practice, Mr. Nivin has represented physicians, attorneys, engineers, business owners, finance professionals, and celebrities. He has developed a reputation as a skilled negotiator who works diligently to settle cases, but who will aggressively litigate cases whenever necessary to protect the interests of his clients. His experience with ACS and as an assigned counsel attorney in Family Court gave him valuable trial skills that he uses whenever it is necessary to take a case to trial. He is well-respected by both the bench and the bar.
